Course Syllabus:

Rope Rescue Awareness

(8 hours)

Minimum of 12 persons.

This course is designed to orient students to the rope rescue environment. Topics will include the "Essential Knots," hardware, software, and rigging tactics, as well as proper anchor point selection.  Rappelling techniques including self-rescue evolutions, and victim pick-offs are practiced. Extensive use of the Descender is also covered.

Rope Rescue Operations

16 hours (2 day)

Minimum 12 persons. 

Pre-requisite: Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Awareness

Purpose: This course provides an introduction to rope, basic rope construction, knots, safe rappelling techniques, and basic haul systems construction.

Student will need:

List will be supplied to students upon enrollment.

This is a continuation of the Awareness Course to include more advanced anchoring systems, such as Load Sharing & Self Equalizing. Basic Mechanical Advantage Systems, Vertical and Horizontal Litter Techniques. The students will perform a low angle raise and lower evolutions simulating patient transport on embankments. Most of the program is hands-on and time is allotted for practice in order to build proficiency

Rope Rescue Technician Level ,

16 hours (2 day)

Minimum 12 persons. 

Pre-requisite:

Rope Rescue Operations Training

Basic Rescue Practices

Purpose:This course re-introduces the various types of rescue equipment. Students will be trained in: mechanical advantage systems, safeties, basic ascending, basic rappelling technique and tie-offs with rappel rack, rope changes, and one person rescue.

Students will need:Helmet, work boots, eye protection, work gloves

The students will perform a low angle raise and lower evolutions simulating patient transport on embankments. Most of the program is hands-on and time is allotted for practice in order to build proficiency. Also this course will focus on patient considerations, which are often neglected in the high level environment.  High lines will be covered during this block of instruction.

Team Organization

16 hours (2 day)

Minimum 12 persons.

RTI will introduce you to the "6 person team concept" of Rope Rescue. You will be taught how to set-up your equipment using a modular system, so that the team can safely and efficiently deploy, access, and evacuate a victim without wasting critical time.

Firefighter Escape Systems:

16 hours (2 day)

Minimum 12 persons.

This course is designed for firefighting personnel who may have to use a single rope technique to affect an escape. Escape kit components are covered and students will actually participate in evolutions with full turnouts and SCBA.

Water Rescue Awareness
Pre-requisite: None

Purpose:This course will provide the public safety first responder with the knowledge of the intrinsic and unique dangers of response to a water related incident. Emphasis will be placed on the water environment and the proper personal protective equipment to be used at these events.

Water Rescue and Emergency Response I

Pre-requisite: Standard first Aid and the ability to swim continuously for 50 yards

Purpose:This 16-hour program involves the basic knowledge and skills necessary for rescuers who are or may be called upon to perform water rescues. Students will become familiar with planning for water emergencies, dynamics of moving water, medical conditions, personal safety, and fundamental rescue techniques (self and shore based rescue).
